octoScope

octoBox overview

octoBox is a compact anechoic RF test station that houses well controlled over-the-air (OTA) test setup for R&D, QA and production test. Its unique dual-chamber design can integrate a complete test set-up, which also makes the octoBox suitable for less technical groups, such as customer support and marketing.

Incorporating test instrumentation, test antennas and an easily accessible chamber for the device under test (DUT), octoBox can replace a large walk-in octobox internalsanechoic chamber for many common radio tests.

To speed up production test, multiple devices or multiple radios in a DUT can be tested simultaneously in controlled OTA conditions.

DUTs include:

  • Smartphones
  • Pods
  • PC clients
  • Access Points
  • Base stations
  • etc.
wireless devices

The top chamber typically houses test equipment or a partner device transmitting to and receiving from the DUT. The DUT chamber houses the DUT and the test antennas and features:

  • Far-field coupling between the DUT antennas and the test antennas
  • Uniform antenna field between the DUT antennas and the test antennas

Typically, OTA measurements are performed in large anechoic chambers that are impractical for densely furnished production floors or engineering labs.  octoBox is long enough in one dimension to provide far-field conditions down to UHF frequencies.

octoBox offers a unique approach to achieving OTA measurement stability in a footprint that fits in each engineer’s office.
